Back by popular demand, Dr Ferguson-Coleman returns to build on her previous training: Deafness with Dementia: Navigating Lived Experiences – a taster.
You’ll learn more about the dynamics of interpreting with Deaf people with Dementia and their family members, as well as Emma’s research into Deafness and Dementia.
Delivered in BSL, in this session Emma will:
Recap dementia symptoms
Provide a checklist that can be shared with people concerned about cognitive changes
Share communication strategies for Deaf people with dementia and their family carers if they are present
Provide tools for engagement with the Deaf person with dementia at the point of contact
Assist you to consider generational cultural differences for Deaf people becoming older
Share information about the BSL cognitive screening test (BSLCST) and how to discuss a range of questions with the assessor
